Cheat tip for Imperialism 2:
How to build Level 4 improvements from Level 2, with only 16 Lumber + 16 CastIron, without the required Technology

Requires 2 builders for one tile.

One turn before acquiring knowledge for Level 3 improvement (e.g. Large Precious Stone Mining for Diamonds), move one builder over the top of the Level 2 improvement.
After the technology advance, redeploy the first builder away from the improvement, and send second builder to improve the resource to Level 3 improvement. Then simply cancel the redeploy orders of the first builder - the first builder will appear in the same tile with the second builder who is already improving! Simply give orders to the first builder to improve the resource to Level 3.
In one turn, you will get 2 builders improving the same tile, for the cost of 2* (8 Lumber + 8 Iron) or 16 L + 16 I total, for improvement from Level 2 to Level 4 ! The technology for Level 4 resources is not required at all!

I tried the same with stacking up 2 builders in same tile one each turn) and giving orders to 3 builders simultaneously to improve from level 1 to level 4, it worked also. Yet, improvement of Level 5 can be achieved on the screen info, but you won't get 5 resources per turn.

I usually improve the tiles to Level 1 without improving to Level 2 (its cheaper to build Level 1). When I can afford it (by allocating 20 Lumber + 20 CastIron in 4 turns), I improve the resource to Level 2 and after 2 turns I am sending extra builder to improve from Level 2 to Level 4. Usually I have the technology for Level 3 improvement when I do this. Otherwise, I should keep the builders on the tile one turn before disvovering the required technology.

Map key: Cernarduwys
9 Diamonds, 9 Gems total.
3 Diamonds in Mayapan (port included in the capital city), 2 Diamonds in Mul, 1 in Detroit, 1 in Iroquis (+ 1 in adjacent Uri) and 1 in Tlaxcala.

I played with France - 7 provinces:
Lots of sheeps (4 in one province), lumber, iron ore, 2 copper+ 2 Tin (one province has both), and 2 horses

My startup province was the SW (the province with two horses). First build an engineer and make roads with both engineers - to east to get the sheeps and iron and to northwest to get the lumber.

Send two ships to explore, to west to take Mayapan (with 3 diamonds) and to east to get Mul. I prefer on east first to take the capitol Carribia (4 wood, 1 lumber + port + cash). After defeating these two objectives send the ships home, or alternatively explore the whole world and take some capitol cities en route.

I left Detroit intact in order to colonize them. Detroit has 4 riches tiles (diamond, gold, silver and spice) so just buy these goods from them and they will soon join the empire. You can speed up the joining by purchasing other goods from them (cotton, sugar, tobacco).

My research priorities was to get Galleons (1542), Printing Press (1526), University (1570). Precious Stone Mining (1560) provided me with extra cash.
I developed Musketeers (1594) later, since I build extra Arquebusiers to conquer the natives.

Strong military prevents the other Great Powers to declare war early in the game. Later in the game I picked one by one the Great Power and expelled them from the New World. Even at 400 level, I managed to develop Field Artillery before 2 other Great Powers developed Heavy Emplaced Artillery, and quickly seized Spain. After developing High Grade Steel (Siege Artillery unit) in 1701, I destroyed Portugal and went on to England and Netherlands.

After capturing the capitals of the Great Powers (but not all the provinces) nobody will bother you. Finally, afetr capturing some provinces from sea, you can build up armies and in 1 turn you can capture all the remaining provinces from the old world.

I got some help on the Imp_list at Yahoo Groups. The key is to have the .exe file for the editor in the same folder as the "Imperialism II.exe" file.

Also, it sounds like the editor automatically edits only the Euro1500 folder contents, correct? In other words, there's no way to save a map by name.

I downloaded this editor and ran the .exe file. It asks me to indicate where my "Imperialism 2" folder is. I've tried all possible folders, but the editor doesn't recognize any of my choice as correct. I am using the full download (no CD) version of Imperialism 2. What exactly is the editor looking for? How should my folder structure be set up? Does the editor only work with the CD version of the game? Thanks.
